iWallet

iWallet USA has created a wallet in which the carbon-fiber wallet can only be opened using your fingerprint, through integrated biometric scanners.
In the core77 post, Rain Noemakes an interesting point when he points out that the wallet could be potentially hooked up to a person's cell phone via bluetooth. When the two were out of radius, it would beep, and thereby you would not leave home having one without the other. This is an ingenious plan, something that would make the wallet that much more useful to consumers.

Glimmer by Warren Berger

In a review on Core77, Robert Blinn takes a look at Warren Berger's book Glimmer. In it, he says that the book can be boiled down to one lesson: it's all about starting the work. When an artist begins something, he or she becomes psychologically involved in the project. Once the first steps are taken, the rest come more easily.
This especially strikes me with my own work. Procrastination is difficult to overcome, but when the task has begun, it is much easier to complete.

Aspirations

For our third, and last, assignment, we have been asked to create a logo in illustrator. The logo is to be placed on business cards and represents our future aspirations. We had to create a list of our future wants and post it to our blogs. Then, using this information, we are to find images that represent these aspirations and ourselves.
My list:
1. Work for a publisher in all aspects of the creation of a book, from editing to design.
2. Travel the world, from Europe to Australia.
3. Run a marathon.
4. Quietly make a difference.
Images I have come up with include books, pens, wings, and a candle.

PeePoo Bag

This innovative bag was created for those in underdeveloped nations who lack sanitation. It took a team of designers to come up with and create this idea, including Camilla Wirseen, Anders Wilhelmson, Bjorn Vinneras, Mikael Hedenqvist, Annika Nordin, Emery Yaolema Sindani, and Peter Thuvander. Peter has also worked on the Husmus recycling system, as discussed in the previous post.
The bag is able to be urinated or shit into and sanitized. The bag is then able to break down and become a part of nature, completely sustainable. Field tests with positive results have been completed in Kenya, and further tests are being done currently. It is exciting to think what a little design and science can do to better the world.

Husmus Recycling

In an article on Core77, a new recycling system by designer We Muungano, called the Husmus, is to be placed under sinks and in kitchens based on an extensive study on the designs and measurements of kitchens, as well as garbage throwing behavior and the weight of glass, paper, and other items.
The recycling "bags" can be manipulated into various configurations depending on preference and need (ie to fit under plumbing, etc.). They are also very colorful and appealing - and can be shipped flat. And they cost between 15 and 25 euro - not a bad buy!

The Incredible Journey That is Consciousness

In a new book by Golden Age, designers Alex Fuller and Gabe Usadell have created a book that consists simply of landscapes using shapes and colors. It is all open to interpretation.
It looks nice and is only $10. Not a bad deal for this limited edition art book.
See more on the Core77 website.

Project 2 - Photoshop

Our assignment was to take a photo of us as a character from a book we read, determine a word to describe the character, then use photoshop to manipulate it into four parts. The first picture was simply manipulated to get better lighting, the second picture has a blurred background, the third has a different background, and the fourth we could use whatever tool we desired.
My character was Don Quixote and my word was delusion.
